The FJIOP provides undergraduate and graduate students with a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the federal court system. Interns work alongside judges, magistrates, and court staff across various administrative and legal functions. Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and write memoranda on assigned topics.
- Assist with case management and administrative tasks.
- Attend court proceedings and observe oral arguments.
- Draft legal documents and prepare correspondence.
- Participate in educational workshops and seminars.
- Contribute to specific projects under the supervision of a judge or court staff member.
Qualifications
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program.
- Strong academic record and demonstrated research and writing skills.
- Knowledge of the federal court system and legal processes is preferred.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Experience
- Prior research experience in a legal or related field is preferred.
- Experience with legal writing is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools is required.
