Do you have a passion for public service and a desire to make a difference in your community? The Chicago Police Department (CPD) is seeking graduate students for its Internship Program! As an intern, you will gain invaluable firsthand experience working alongside dedicated officers and detectives in a major metropolitan police department.
Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis to support crime prevention and community policing initiatives.
- Participate in patrol ride-alongs to observe police operations and interact with community members.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, report preparation, and record management.
- Help organize community events, neighborhood watch programs, and outreach campaigns.
- Shadow police officers and detectives in their daily activities to gain a deeper understanding of law enforcement practices.
- May contribute to special projects as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited college or university.
- Preference given to students pursuing degrees in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or 3.5 on a 5.0 scale.
Experience
- Previous coursework or experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or community outreach is preferred but not required.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced law enforcement environment.
